Redolence win the cup in dramatic fashion!

Report

Redolence turned up to their first final full of beans off the back of a string of victories and ready to leave their mark in a final that they had worked hard to get to all season.

Positive vibes filled the changing rooms at the 6pm meet time, although people did start to shit themselves that Spros hadn’t shown up yet, we were ushered to go and ‘Check in’ with an old fellow (who looked like he didn’t really have a clue) and luckily for us, Spros rocked up looking like the Aviator king that he is. Phil was blasting bangers, it was a good vibe.

After a warm up we all gathered in the changing room so Scott could announce the team and give his speech that he had clearly googled. That guy loves the sound of his own voice. Jon in goal, Stu, Crouchy, Ash and Max at the back, Si, Luka, Jord and Lewis in the middle, Andy and Spros up front. Randle, Tim, Jonesy, Woody and Ant on the bench, with Phil and Ry as Videprinter Guru and Water boy respectively. A good crowd had turned up to watch the game and Redolence were about to begin the biggest game in the clubs history.

First Half

The game begins and guess what happens, big Andy Seager absolutely pings a left footed half volley straight into the top bin from the edge of the box. It was like a thunderbolt had sex with a rocket ship. 10 keepers wouldn’t have kept it out and Redolence took the lead. A finish worthy of the bump that Ry now has on his head from jumping up in the dugout and nutting the roof.

Cross did some stuff and Max knocked a guy over, Tim came on. Then Lewis whips a pearler over from the right wing to Spros, who takes one touch out of his feet, Ry at this point had taken a step out of the dugout to protect his head – he knew what was coming – and come it did. It was like slow motion, a low strike across the goalkeeper in to the bottom corner. Spros had continued his streak by absolutely dicking his opponents and doubling the lead. Big celebrations everywhere and Ry’s head suitably out of danger.

HT 2-0

No further changes at half time, Redolence pushed on, that Connor kid is still a knob. Spros picks the ball up on the half way line, left side of the pitch. Busts out some spinny thing like cross between a ballerina and a hammer thrower, the Cross midfielder was literally like “Holy Santa Clause shit” and at least 10 people in the crowd were like “woooaaaah” as he left him for dead, thoroughly embarrassed. Spros drives down the wing and looks up, sees big Tim Lees waving at the back post and drills the ball over. Tim, the fine physical athlete that he is, rises like a salmon with too much hair gel, and powers the ball into the ground and past the Keeper. 3-0.

Changes were made across the pitch, Jonesy, Woody, Ant, and Randle all coming on. Cross got really lucky and scored three piss dribble goals (3-3) but this did not deter Redolence, for we are warriors and do not lie down (except in the showers). Spros, who had now taken on the form of a gladiator, collects the balls in the Cross half. Holds down triangle for the perfect amount of time and plays a lovely through ball to Tim slightly wide of the goal. He can smell the ladies in the crowd and has to dodge various knickers and bras being flung towards him, but with the focus of a Jedi, smashes the ball low across the goal keeper and into the corner. 4-3 to Redolence. What a guy.

Cross scored again, whatever. Probably offside anyway. FT 4-4. A half filled with goals and drama and the Cup was to be decided on Penalties.

FT 4-4

Cross had heard about Jon’s penalty saving record, obviously as it’s now the 11th commandment and it’s written in the fine print at the bottom of every McDonalds large fries box. It was his moment to shine like the star that he is and he was going to seize it. Fire came up from the ground as the Earth behind the goal fell away and Jon shouts in his slightly feminine voice “YOU SHALL NOT PASS”. It was epic. Not a single penalty was scored against Jon that night, and legend has it, if you stand on top of Kilimanjaro facing in a certain direction, you can see a Jon shaped cloud, that doesn’t allow any other clouds to pass by. We scored a couple, held our nerve, won the cup, and performed a fantastic pile-on.

A Great night for the club and everyone involved. Mammoth shifts from everyone, especially the midfield, and all the strikers bagging when we needed them too. Many a celebration was had, Stu even got his tallywacker out in the shower. Sam from Redolence gave us all a pint on the house and everyone went to sleep with a smile on their face.

Now speaking from a personal point of view, but feel that all the lads will agree, it was a privilege to be part of Thursday night, being part of Redolence winning their first silverware and getting to share that winning feeling with a real honest bunch of friends. Long may it continue, and here’s to the winners of the Pat Sanders/Ken Parfitt Cup 2016/2017.

Man of the Match: Tim Lees
